Jewelry Organizer

A few months ago I Googled for a headband tutorial and found Hooray for Headbands on HELLOmynameisHeather. I also happened to see the gold framed mirror she painted for her studio and fell in love with it. Luckily my husband had an old gold frame in storage so I had to do this project.

I painted mine similar colors to Heather's. I used sample packets of Laura Ashley paint from the hardware store (they were only 99 cents each) in Apple and Hampton Court. First I painted the frame a watered down Hampton Blue and then wiped it off with paper towels to let some of the gold show through. After the blue dried, I dabbed a dry brush in Apple and lightly brushed it over the blue without covering it completely.

I couldn't decide if I wanted to make the frame into a magnet board or cork board, but then I saw a clever idea in Better Homes & Gardens using radiator grill. At $36, the radiator grill was a little pricier than I thought it would be, but considering the frame was free and the paint was only $2, I got the grill. Plus, it was a 24x36 sheet, exactly the size I needed for the frame so no cutting! It was meant to be...

I spray painted the grill with an almond color and used clear silicone glue to attach it to the frame. I also used some tiny nails to secure it.

I added some s-hooks and put it on my worktable to store my jewelry samples.

Thanks to Heather and BH&G for the inspiration!

Beautiful!! I have one very similar that I made using a screen for the back instead of a radiator grill...I love the look of the grill though!! Very chic:)

I saw this is BH & G too, but can't find the radiator screen. Where did you find it?

I found the radiator screen at Lowe's. I had to find it myself as no one seemed to know what I was talking about. I found it in the hardware section by the nails, screws, etc.

Raesha's idea to use a screen is a good one too!

I saw something like this on etsy, but is was so expensive i wanted to make one myself. I'm so glad I found your site! this is much more adorable than the one I found, I can't wait to make something like it for myself! and i was so excited when i saw that you have an etsy shop too!
I'm definitely going to subscribe to your blog, and add your shop to my favorites! Everything is so adorable, maybe I'll start saving up my money.

Thanks for posting this! I had to try it today, but I only had room for a half size one. The grate (found at Lowe's like you said) was on sale for $22, and the frame was half off at Michael's for about $30. I did check at Home Depot to see if they had any different grating patterns, but they didn't have anything. Paint and S hooks were probably $20 total. Since I did a half size, I grabbed the wire cutters to down-size the grating, but found it was easily cut with scissors.

The whole project was super easy and I am really please with the result! Thanks again!
