Jewelry Organizer

A few months ago I Googled for a headband tutorial and found Hooray for Headbands on HELLOmynameisHeather. I also happened to see the gold framed mirror she painted for her studio and fell in love with it. Luckily my husband had an old gold frame in storage so I had to do this project.

I painted mine similar colors to Heather's. I used sample packets of Laura Ashley paint from the hardware store (they were only 99 cents each) in Apple and Hampton Court. First I painted the frame a watered down Hampton Blue and then wiped it off with paper towels to let some of the gold show through. After the blue dried, I dabbed a dry brush in Apple and lightly brushed it over the blue without covering it completely.

I couldn't decide if I wanted to make the frame into a magnet board or cork board, but then I saw a clever idea in Better Homes & Gardens using radiator grill. At $36, the radiator grill was a little pricier than I thought it would be, but considering the frame was free and the paint was only $2, I got the grill. Plus, it was a 24x36 sheet, exactly the size I needed for the frame so no cutting! It was meant to be...

I spray painted the grill with an almond color and used clear silicone glue to attach it to the frame. I also used some tiny nails to secure it.

I added some s-hooks and put it on my worktable to store my jewelry samples.

Thanks to Heather and BH&G for the inspiration!
