I want to put something else on the top besides the plant.
Any decorating ideas?

Detail of the fluted corner posts.

I like how the crackle finish is heavy in some spots but not all over the whole piece.
It has nice deep shelves for storing all of the appliances I have that are hard to store in my kitchen cabinets...a breadmaker, slow cooker, griddle, etc. I've put everything in there and still have lots of room. Storage space is the best!
This is one of the last rooms that needs to be painted on the first floor of our house. I think I'm going to paint it a lighter shade of the yellow we used for the cabinet.
I wish my husband could just work for me. I have lots more things I would like for my house. :o)

I love it! What a talented husband you have.
That is so great!
I can't believe he made that...
He's sure talented.
Thanks...he really does a great job. Someday we'd like to open a furniture shop. He just does this part-time right now and has been plenty busy with custom orders.
What a wonderful piece; beautiful craftsmanship!
Aren’t you guys horribly talented! That is an amazing piece of furniture, I am super jealous…
The bracelet arrived yesterday – thank you! I have received so many comments about it and the earrings already, I keep pointing people your way. I have taken a peak back at your etsy site, but think I will have to be good for now.
Thanks, Sigrid!
Philippa...I'm glad you like your jewelry and thank you so much for sending people my way! I really appreciate it.
This piece is absolutely gorgeous! I am working on bookshelves in my guest room and would LOVE to emulate the techniques used to make this piece so wonderful looking. I get that you or he antiqued it with the gray and butter yellow, but what glazes were used, and the black - is that paint or a burning? Ooo, I'm so intrigued!
niartist...thanks for your questions. My husband painted the cabinet with the butter yellow, then used a crackle finish on top of that, then used sandpaper to distress it. The darker areas aren't burned, they are the result of brushing on a homemade finish on the crackled and sanded parts. My husband uses this finish on his handmade furniture and cabinets and I promised him I wouldn't give out the "recipe", sorry :o)
Home Depot and paint stores have crackle finishes and glazes and things like that. I would recommend using the same line so they work together and then just try different techniques on sample boards to come up with a process you like!
Hope this helps!
